Overview
The temple in Udaipur, built by Maharana Karan Singh between 1620-1628 on the land of Machla Magra, holds historical significance as a symbol of the city's limit and safety. Although abandoned for a significant period, efforts by the temple committee in 1997 led to its restoration and ongoing reconstruction.
Approaching the temple involves a leisurely 10-minute walk along stairs adorned with overlooks, rest stops, and a water cooler, offering a serene journey amidst nature. Along the way, a high structure with holes in the walls, once utilized by kings as a hideaway for hunting and storing weapons, can be found to the left of the stairwell. However, visitors should exercise caution when exploring this structure due to its unmaintained state and potential presence of snakes and other creatures.

History
Maharana Karan Singh built the Karni Mata Temple in Udaipur between 1620 and 1628 while working on the expansion of Machla Magra’s residential districts. The temple was not well-known until 1997, and just a few people came to see it. Devotees began crowding the temple premises in droves only after the Mansapurna Karni Mata Development Committee completed a rehabilitation project in 1997. The temple is now completely equipped with conveniently accessible staircases and ropeways, as well as numerous resting areas for the convenience of Karni Mata’s followers and worshippers.
Karni Mata Ropeway
The Mansapurna Karni Mata Ropeway is indeed one of the highlights of Udaipur's tourism landscape, offering visitors a convenient and scenic journey between the Shri Karni Mata Temple at Machhala Hill Top and Deendayal Upadhyay Park.
In 2008, Kailash Khandelwal, in collaboration with UIT, spearheaded the construction of this ropeway, which spans a distance of 387 meters using a fixed-grip mono cable. This ropeway holds the distinction of being Rajasthan's first, providing tourists with a unique and exhilarating mode of transportation.
The mounted cable cars, known as gondolas, can accommodate six passengers per trip, with the line being bidirectional. Visitors have the opportunity to enjoy stunning views of Udaipur's iconic landmarks, including Pichola Lake, Fateh Sagar Lake, the City Palace Complex, Sajjangarh Fort, and the Aravali mountains, all visible from the comfort of the cable car.
